What is a Trigger Point Injection?
A trigger point injection is an outpatient procedure designed to reduce or relieve back pain. The pain is caused by trigger points, which are small knots that form in muscles or in the fascia tissue (localized muscle spasms), leading to pain caused by muscle irritation (myofascial pain). Muscle spasms can occur when muscles become tight (or contracted) for too long. This causes a decrease in oxygen to the muscle and prevents healing.
